“Start Working Towards 2027” – PDP Chieftain Backs Makinde for President

A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Kunmi Mustapha, has declared his support for Governor Seyi Makinde as a presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. In a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday to mark Makinde’s sixth year in office, Mustapha praised the governor’s leadership qualities and called on him to begin preparing for a national role.

Mustapha described Makinde as a courageous and visionary leader, citing his record in governance as a solid foundation for a potential presidential bid. He emphasized that the PDP, despite its current challenges, remains capable of reclaiming power at the national level in 2027, and Makinde stands out as a strong contender to lead that charge.

Highlighting Makinde’s achievements in Oyo State, Mustapha pointed to significant improvements in urban renewal, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, workers’ welfare, and social inclusion. He said these accomplishments reflect the governor’s capacity to manage national affairs with competence and compassion. According to him, Makinde’s dedication to public service is reminiscent of the legendary Obafemi Awolowo’s vision for mass development.

Mustapha, who now serves as Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the governor, reaffirmed his full loyalty and urged Makinde to begin strategizing for 2027. “Come rain or shine, we commit our loyalty to him. We, therefore, urge him to start working towards 2027,” he said.

He encouraged Nigerians to rally behind leaders who prioritize public welfare over personal gain, noting that Makinde has consistently shown a commitment to improving lives across all segments of society. He also commended other PDP leaders, including acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and Board of Trustees member Chief Bode George, for their roles in fostering unity within the party.
