SSS Operatives Storm Malami’s Abuja Residence After Atiku Visit, Disperse Occupants

Security operatives from the State Security Service (SSS) entered a property belonging to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in Abuja on Monday, dispersing people present at the premises shortly after a high-profile visit by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

According to multiple sources familiar with the incident, officers arrived at the Maitama residence shortly after 3:00 p.m. and moved in after surrounding the area. Atiku had reportedly spent about an hour at the location before departing.

An aide to the former vice-president confirmed the visit, while another witness said security personnel were already positioned around the property during the meeting and entered immediately afterward, forcing occupants to leave.

The development comes at a time of heightened political tension involving Mr. Malami, who has recently faced ongoing legal proceedings tied to allegations of corruption. The charges have been widely interpreted in political circles as part of a broader struggle between opposition figures and the current administration.

President Bola Tinubu has denied claims that his government is targeting political opponents, maintaining that his administration’s record since taking office in 2023 supports its legitimacy and performance.

Atiku Abubakar had earlier shared images of his visit to Mr. Malami on social media, but did not reference the subsequent security operation.

The SSS has not issued a public statement regarding the incident, and requests for comment were not immediately answered.
