“If they can’t see our achievements, we’ll lend them ‘Jigi-Bola glasses’ — Tinubu replies critics
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded sharply to criticism from opposition figures, accusing them of ignoring his administration’s achievements.
Speaking on Thursday at the State House while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Hope Uzodimma, Tinubu suggested that his critics—Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rauf Aregbesola—are unable to see the progress made under his leadership.
“If they don’t want to see the roads, bridges, and economic growth, we will lend them ‘Jigi-Bola’ glasses,” the president said, in a remark aimed at dismissing their criticisms.
Tinubu also reiterated his commitment to ongoing reforms, stating that his administration will continue policies designed to expand opportunities for low-income and vulnerable Nigerians.
The president’s comments follow a series of attacks from opposition leaders earlier in the week.
Aregbesola, now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), described Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” as deceptive. Shortly after, Atiku Abubakar said he would reverse all policies introduced by the current administration if elected in 2027.
“Everything is wrong with President Tinubu. This is the worst administration I have seen,” Atiku said.
Peter Obi also criticised the government during the ADC convention in Abuja, warning of worsening economic and social conditions. He pointed to rising poverty levels and national debt, arguing that the country is becoming increasingly divided.
According to Obi, poverty rates have significantly increased since the current administration took office, while public debt has continued to rise despite the removal of fuel subsidies. He also raised concerns about unpaid contractors and stalled project funding.
