“South-West People Will Not Vote APC Again in 2027; We Are Now Wiser” — Oyo Governor Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that the people of the South-West region will not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. According to Makinde, who is also the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West, the decision stems from the hardship Nigerians have experienced under the APC government.

Makinde expressed that Yoruba voters, predominantly spread across the South-West states, now regret backing President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections. He emphasized that the people have grown wiser and are prepared to shift their political allegiance.

This declaration comes amidst claims by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who, during a stakeholders meeting, expressed confidence that the APC would secure the South-West for President Tinubu again in 2027. Similarly, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, during a campaign tour in Ese Odo Local Government Area, asserted that the PDP had lost relevance in Ondo, with many opposition leaders returning to the APC fold.

However, Governor Makinde was quick to counter these claims, stating that the PDP still holds significant influence in the region. Addressing Ganduje’s remarks, Makinde confidently predicted a strong show of support for the PDP, particularly in Ondo State, during the upcoming November 16, 2024, elections.

“If wishes were horses, everybody would ride,” Makinde quipped, adding, “The people of the South-West, and especially in Ondo, are wiser now. On November 16, they will show that the South-West is for the PDP.”

Makinde’s comments come as the race for political control in the South-West heats up ahead of the 2027 elections, with both the APC and PDP vying for dominance in this crucial region.
