South-East APC Holds Zonal Congress, Elects New Executive by Consensus (Full List)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s South-East on Wednesday conducted its zonal congress in Enugu, adopting a consensus process to elect new executive members.

The exercise, which started after a delay, gained momentum following the arrival of key party leaders, including governors Hope Uzodimma, Francis Nwifuru, and Peter Mbah. Their presence signaled agreement among stakeholders on the outcome of the congress.

The process produced a new zonal executive led by Ijeoma Arodiogbu as chairman.

Addressing delegates, Uzodimma, who chairs the Southeast Governors’ Forum, said the decision to adopt consensus was aimed at maintaining unity within the party. He also conveyed greetings from Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the party remained focused on national progress and economic reforms.

Proceedings began with a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing zonal executive, moved by Nwifuru and seconded by Senator Patrick Ndubueze.

Following the dissolution, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, presented the list of consensus candidates for adoption. He also moved motions to formalize the use of consensus in line with party and electoral provisions, and to ratify earlier congresses conducted at ward, local government, and state levels.

The motions were seconded by Eugene Uchenna Ugwu and approved by delegates.

Other members of the newly constituted zonal executive include Innocent Itakpa Azuoba as secretary, Rex Mayor Ogbonna as legal adviser, and Henry Onwughalaonye as publicity secretary. Additional positions were filled by Chima Kenneth Ogbonnaya, Nwachukwu, Oby Aji, and Arinze Ikedife.

In his remarks, Mbah described the congress as evidence of cohesion within the party in the region, stating that the outcome contradicted predictions of internal division.

The event was attended by several party figures, including former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Deputy National Chairman (South) Emma Eneukwu, and lawmakers such as Osita Izunaso, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, and Uche Ekwunife.

Also present were Minister of State for Labour Nkeiru Onyejeocha, former minister Chris Ngige, and Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Kingsley Udeh, alongside other stakeholders.

Party officials said the congress marks a step in consolidating the APC’s structure in the South-East ahead of its next national convention.
