Son Allegedly Sets Mother Ablaze in Delta State
The town of Sapele in Delta State was left in shock after the alleged murder of Mrs. Fatima Umukoro, proprietress of His Majesty Group of Schools, by her own son, Emmanuel Umukoro. The gruesome event took place on Saturday night, sending waves of disbelief throughout the community.
According to eyewitness accounts, neighbors noticed something unusual around 8:30 PM when Emmanuel was seen speeding out of the family’s compound in his mother’s car. Concerned about the reckless driving, some neighbors intended to inform Mrs. Umukoro but were met with an unexpected sight — the gate to the residence was wide open, which was out of the ordinary.
Upon further investigation around 10 PM, the neighbors noticed flames coming from inside the house. Entering the home, they discovered the charred remains of Mrs. Umukoro, burnt beyond recognition in what was described as a gruesome and horrific scene.
The case was swiftly reported to local authorities, and Emmanuel was apprehended by police officers later that night along the Sapele-Warri Road as he attempted to flee. Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest, adding that the motive for the alleged crime is still under investigation.
