Soludo’s Government Reacts to ‘No Underwear, Get Arrested’ Announcement in Anambra
The Anambra State Government has refuted claims that it authorized a recent announcement regarding the arrest of women who do not wear underwear. The statement, reportedly made by a town crier in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, alleged that ladies seen without bras or pants would face arrest. However, the government has clarified that neither it nor the Agunechemba Security Outfit issued such a directive.
Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, released a statement addressing the issue. “The Anambra State Government has no hand in this misleading announcement. It is not from us, nor from the Agunechemba Security Outfit. Such claims have no legal backing and should be disregarded,” he said.
Officials emphasized that such a matter has no legal backing and is not a priority for the State government or its law enforcement agencies. “Our focus remains on combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents,” Opara added. “We cannot afford to be distracted by baseless claims that divert attention from real security challenges.”
While the government continues to promote decency and moral values in society, it stressed that law enforcement must remain focused on addressing criminal activities. Residents are urged to disregard the misleading announcement and avoid spreading misinformation.
Furthermore, the government encourages the public to support security agencies by providing credible information on criminal activities in their communities. “If you see something, say something,” Opara urged.
