Truck Crashes into University Shuttle, Leaving Eight Dead
Seven students from the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and a shuttle bus driver have been confirmed dead following a tragic accident involving a truck in Kogi State. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 2:30 p.m. when an articulated vehicle carrying wood and jerrycans of palm oil lost control and collided with the university’s shuttle bus, which was filled with students.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was about to transport students to school when the truck suddenly veered off course and crashed into it. The force of the impact crushed the shuttle bus, leaving several casualties.
In the aftermath of the accident, students gathered to protest, demanding restrictions on truck movements during the daytime to prevent future tragedies.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) promptly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations and evacuate victims. The Kogi State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Samuel Oyedeji, who led the response team, stated that bodies had been taken to the morgue for identification. The injured were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention.
