Six Female Recruits Dismissed from Amotekun Camp Over Pregnancy
The Ogun State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, has dismissed six female recruits after a routine pregnancy test revealed they were pregnant before joining the agency’s training camp. The announcement was made by the State Corps Commander, retired Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, who emphasized the agency’s responsibility to protect the health and well-being of its personnel while upholding high standards of professionalism and discipline.
The screening, which involved 125 female recruits, was part of the agency’s proactive approach to identifying potential health risks that could arise during the physically demanding three-week training program. According to Commander Adedigba, the decision was made to prevent complications such as miscarriages or avoidable birth defects due to the rigorous nature of the exercises.
“The training we provide here is intense and physically demanding,” Adedigba said. “We are concerned that these physical demands may pose serious risks to pregnant recruits and their unborn children. This difficult but necessary decision was taken to ensure a safe and secure environment for all trainees and aligns with our mission of public safety and health.”
Despite the dismissal, the agency acknowledged the courage and commitment of the affected women and assured them of future opportunities within Amotekun once they have safely delivered. “We appreciate their willingness to serve and protect our communities,” Adedigba stated. “They will be welcome to rejoin the corps in the next recruitment exercise after delivery.”
Amotekun reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a training environment free of health risks or complications, highlighting that every measure taken is aimed at strengthening the agency’s overall capacity to ensure safety in Ogun State.
