Sit-at-Home Enforcers Kill Two in Aba

Two people were shot and killed by armed masked men in Aba, Abia State, on Tuesday, in what appears to be a violent enforcement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s sit-at-home order. The assailants, dressed in black clothing with hoods, attacked their victims near Old Express, off Sameck Junction, in Aba North Local Government Area.

One of the victims was identified as a caretaker of a nearby property, while the other remains unidentified. Witnesses report that the caretaker’s body was quickly removed by his family, while the second victim was left lying in a pool of blood. The gunmen fled the scene, leaving residents in fear. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The killings have heightened tension in Aba, as residents worry about the motives behind the violence. Despite the growing fear, many locals stayed indoors for the second consecutive day, observing the sit-at-home order called by IPOB. Commercial activities in key areas, including the usually busy Milverton bus terminal, were largely suspended.

Ebonyi Residents Defy Sit-at-Home

Meanwhile, in neighboring Ebonyi State, residents in Abakaliki largely ignored the sit-at-home directive. After adhering to the order on Monday, people resumed their daily activities on Tuesday, with businesses, markets, and transportation services operating normally. Intra-state buses loaded passengers, and shops and eateries opened for business. However, buses traveling to other states remained grounded, as transport companies expressed concerns about the safety of passengers outside the state.
