Shocking Incident: Boy Survives Burial Order from Step-Mother in Kogi

In a shocking incident that has gripped the Kogi State community, a young boy narrowly escaped a grim fate as he was buried alive, following orders from his stepmother. The incident unfolded in the outskirt community of Akpansede, near Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, casting a dark shadow over the ongoing gubernatorial election.

On a fateful Tuesday evening, residents of Akpansede stumbled upon a horrifying scene that left them baffled. In the midst of a lonely farm road, they discovered a lone human head, with the rest of the body concealed beneath the ground. Their curiosity led them closer to the site, revealing a weak but living 11-year-old boy, whose name has been withheld to protect his identity.

The boy’s head was swollen, his body bore bruises, and his hands were tied behind his back. He managed to recount the harrowing tale of how he had been buried by his own brother, Goodness Oshodi, on the orders of their stepmother. The motive for this cruel act was the alleged theft of N1,000 by the young victim.

An enraged Mrs. Oshodi, the stepmother, was swift to condemn the alleged theft and subsequently called for a severe punishment to be meted out to the child. A short video clip circulating on social media captured the immediate aftermath of the incident.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, revealed that the boy’s stepmother accused him of being a habitual thief. It was further alleged that the boy had run away from home for over a month prior to this incident, following another offense.

One of the community members who participated in the rescue effort, Mrs. Monisola, took the victim to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for much-needed treatment on the following Wednesday morning.

While PPRO Aya assured the public of a thorough investigation into the matter, the incident has left the community of Lokoja and its environs deeply shaken. An elderly resident remarked, “How can somebody bury his own brother alive? I think the end of the world has come.”
