Shettima Reacts to Super Eagles’ AFCON Final Defeat Against Côte d’Ivoire
Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed admiration for the Super Eagles’ performance at the just-concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, despite their loss to the host nation in the final match.
In a statement released by his Media Aide, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima commended the team, stating, “While the trophy may not be coming home to Nigeria tonight, our hearts remain filled with immense pride for the Super Eagles.”
Shettima, who led a Federal Government delegation to witness the final match in Abidjan, acknowledged the valiant effort and skill displayed by the Nigerian team throughout the tournament. He emphasized that victory and defeat are integral parts of the sporting world.
The Vice President congratulated Côte d’Ivoire for their triumph and thanked the people of Côte d’Ivoire for their hospitality, sportsmanship, and for creating a memorable AFCON experience. He noted, “Tonight marks not just your victory but the beautiful game that brings us together.”
Shettima declared Africa as the ultimate winner of the AFCON, emphasizing the tournament’s role in showcasing the potential and resilience of the continent. He highlighted football as a unifying factor that transcends boundaries, stating, “No matter which way the pendulum swings, Africa is the ultimate winner.”
The Vice President underscored the importance of unity in Africa, praising the dazzling displays of skills, tactical battles, and moments of sporting camaraderie witnessed during the tournament. He stated, “Nigeria may not have lifted the trophy tonight, but Africa truly emerged as the champion.”
Shettima urged Africans to channel the passion and unity observed on the football pitch into tangible progress in all spheres of life. He concluded, “Let us celebrate the power of unity, the beauty of diversity, and the boundless potential that lies within our continent. This tournament should be a catalyst for further collaboration and cooperation across the continent.”
