Seven Anambra LGAs Listed as Dangerous Ahead of Governorship Poll

Stakeholders in Anambra State have raised security concerns ahead of the November 8 governorship election, identifying seven local government areas as potential flashpoints for violence and unrest. The councils listed are Awka South, Awka North, Ihiala, Nnewi South, Idemili North, Orumba South, and Ayamelum.

The concerns were presented in Awka to the National Peace Committee (NPC), led by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, during a European Union-sponsored validation forum held across the state’s three senatorial districts. The Kukah Center, which serves as the NPC’s secretariat, urged participants to remain committed to preventing election-related violence. Deborah Obafemi of the center reminded stakeholders of their influence in shaping a transparent and peaceful electoral process that can restore public trust, encourage voter participation, and strengthen democracy in Anambra.

“As we are all aware, Anambra State is approaching a pivotal moment with the upcoming off-cycle election,” she said. “We believe that peace building and electoral credibility must be built from the ground up, with your voices, your leadership, and your commitment.”
