Security Forces Dismantle Bomb Factory in Ihiala, Reclaiming Criminal Stronghold

The Joint Security Force comprising personnel from the Nigerian Police, the Military, and the Anambra State Vigilante Service launched a coordinated offensive on May 24, 2025, targeting a notorious criminal hideout at Isseke in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. The operation resulted in the destruction of a local bomb factory and the recovery and demobilization of several improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The hideout, reportedly one of the last operational bases of a secessionist group in the region, had served as a fortified hub for criminal activity and violent attacks for over two years. Security sources described the area as heavily fortified, with booby traps and concealed explosives designed to deter law enforcement incursions.

During the operation, one of the IEDs buried near the camp detonated, causing significant damage to the surrounding road infrastructure. The explosive device was believed to have been planted as a defensive barrier to hinder access to the facility. Despite the blast, no casualties were recorded, and the operation proceeded successfully.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements and restoring full government control across affected areas. The latest offensive marks a continued effort by security forces to assert operational dominance and restore lasting peace in Anambra State.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Awka, issued the statement on May 25, 2025.
