“Security Agencies on High Alert Over Your Claim That Politicians Kill, Maim for Power” – Matawalle Warns Amaechi
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has condemned comments made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, regarding politicians’ desperation for power. Amaechi had claimed that President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders would not willingly hand over power to the younger generation, asserting that politicians in Nigeria steal, maim, and kill to stay in control.
In response, Matawalle described the remarks as “reckless and dangerous,” warning against narratives that could incite violence. In a statement issued on Thursday by Henshaw Ogubike, the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, the minister emphasized that such inflammatory statements were unacceptable, especially when the government is focused on national security and unity.
Matawalle assured that security agencies remain on high alert and that any individual or group attempting to incite violence or disrupt stability will face legal consequences. He reiterated that power is earned through democratic processes, not intimidation or violence, and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to upholding peace, democratic values, and national security.
The minister warned against rhetoric that could undermine national stability, stating that the government will not tolerate any form of subversion or lawlessness.
