Scores Feared Dead in Kaduna Market Attack
An unspecified number of people are feared dead following an attack by bandits on Maro Junction market in the Maro Ward of Kajuru local government area, Kaduna State. Kajuru, a known hotspot for banditry, witnessed this tragic event late Wednesday afternoon.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, confirmed the attack and stated that five people were injured and one person killed. However, local reports suggest that at least 12 people lost their lives in the indiscriminate shooting.
The attack occurred around 4:30 PM, with bandits opening fire on market-goers, leading to chaos and multiple casualties. ASP Hassan noted that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact number of fatalities. He also mentioned that security forces responded swiftly to the distress call and are actively pursuing the assailants.
Locals believe the attackers may have originated from the Kanwa forest within the same local government area, a suspected base for the bandits. The police, alongside other security operatives, are currently trailing the perpetrators in a bid to bring them to justice.
