Same Sex Controversy: If Devil Wants to End Christianity, He’ll First Destroy Catholic Church, Fr Kelvin Warns
Rev Fr Kelvin Ugwu, a Nigerian missionary priest in Gambia, has expressed concerns about the future of Christianity, claiming that the devil could undermine the entire faith by targeting the Catholic Church. His remarks came in response to the Vatican’s approval of blessings for same-sex couples, a move that has sparked global controversy and prompted some Christian leaders, including certain Catholic bishops, to distance themselves from the decision.
Fr Kelvin, in a post on his verified Facebook page, urged Christians to refrain from engaging in mockery and ridicule over the controversy. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “For Christians all over the world, I say this, if the devil wants to scatter this Christian faith kpatakpata, all he needs to do is to destroy the Catholic church.”
The priest lamented the ambiguity of the Vatican’s document on same-sex blessings, asserting that the lack of clear stipulations has led to widespread confusion and controversy. He criticized the document, stating, “What it did not say is more devastating than what it was trying to say.”
The controversy surrounding the Vatican’s approval of blessings for same-sex couples has not only caused divisions within the Catholic Church but has also led to public ridicule of Christians on social media by some unbelievers. Fr Kelvin cautioned against participating in discussions that mock the Christian faith, emphasizing the need for a serious and respectful dialogue amid the ongoing controversy.
The priest highlighted the efforts made by bishops, conferences, and priests to explain and clarify the document to their respective communities, both online and offline. He concluded by expressing his hope that Christians would remain steadfast in their faith during this challenging time.
