“Jealousy in the Recessive Gene”: Fr. Kelvin Ugwu Calls Out Anambra Professor Eyeing Presidency and Bitter About Peter Obi’s Rising Profile

Nigerian Catholic priest, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has stirred reactions on social media after publicly criticizing an unnamed Anambra professor who he claims feels threatened by Peter Obi’s presidential ambition. In a strongly worded post, Fr. Ugwu alleged that the professor, who also harbours hopes of becoming Nigeria’s president, sees Obi’s growing popularity as a direct challenge to his own political future.

While he did not name the individual, the timing and tone of the priest’s comments have led many to believe he was referring to Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo. The post came shortly after Governor Soludo appeared to take subtle jabs at Obi, questioning his pledge to serve only one term if elected president.

In his message, Fr. Ugwu argued that the professor believes Obi’s potential presidency would satisfy Nigeria’s unwritten zoning expectations for the South East, effectively diminishing the professor’s chances for the next two decades. He also suggested that Obi’s performance, if elected, would become the standard by which future leaders from Anambra would be judged—a prospect the professor allegedly finds uncomfortable.

“The Anambra Prof wants to be president of Nigeria, which is not a bad thing,” Ugwu wrote. “But his professorial calculation is that Peter Obi is a threat to his ambition… The professor does not feel good about that. So you can understand why Prof will rather support Bulaba or Atiku.”

Fr. Ugwu ended his post with biting remarks, claiming the professor “can’t even hide his jealousy and hatred” and suggesting his envy stems from a deeply rooted but poorly disguised insecurity.
