If PDP Wants Another Round of Crisis, So Be It — My South-South Congress Must Stand, Says Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be prepared for another round of internal crisis if it fails to uphold the outcome of the South-South zonal congress.

Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike insisted that the congress, which produced Chief Daniel Orbi as National Vice Chairman (South-South), must stand. According to him, the congress held in Calabar had the backing of the court and could not be overturned by party leaders or factions.

“If PDP wants another round of crisis, so be it. All I know is my own South-South congress must stand,” Wike stated emphatically.

He criticised the PDP Acting National Chairman for allegedly attempting to delegitimise the congress by claiming that it lacked the support of PDP governors. “When we were doing our South-South congress, the Acting National Chairman claimed that the PDP governors were not in support of the National Congress. Where are the PDP governors now?” Wike asked.

He stressed that the party cannot ignore the legitimacy of the congress, noting that legal approval had already been granted. “Our congress held, and Chief Daniel Orbi emerged as the National Vice Chairman. The Court allowed for the congress to hold, and there’s nothing anybody can tell us,” he said.

Wike’s remarks signal deepening tensions within the PDP and suggest that reconciliation will only be possible if the party leadership accepts the outcome of the zonal congress.
