Robbery Suspect Uses Pepper to Steal Car and Belongings, Arrested in Lagos
Olamide Tailor, a 33-year-old robbery suspect, has shockingly admitted to using ground pepper to facilitate a car theft and other belongings. The incident occurred in Lagos, and Tailor’s confessions have left authorities and residents in disbelief.
According to police reports from the Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos, Tailor revealed that he and his accomplices had planned to rob a resident of his Toyota Corolla car valued at N3 million, along with various other possessions. However, their victim resisted their efforts and drew attention to their criminal activity.
In a desperate move, Tailor resorted to an unconventional method. He retrieved ground pepper from his pocket and threw it into the victim’s face, temporarily blinding him and causing immense discomfort. Seizing the opportunity, the criminals swiftly robbed the victim of his car, laptop, clothing, shoes, phones, and cash while he struggled in agony.
The victim, still suffering from the pepper’s effects, screamed for help but was unable to see his assailants clearly. This delay allowed the suspects to make a quick getaway.
In response to the victim’s petition, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Mohammed Ali, ordered a comprehensive investigation to bring the culprits to justice. After days of diligent intelligence work, the police managed to track down Olamide Tailor at a hideout in Lagos, leading to his arrest.
Subsequently, Tailor was charged with three counts related to robbery and stealing before the Ebute-metta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, under the provisions of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
During the court proceedings, Tailor pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Mr. Davies granted him bail, set at N500,000, and required two sureties to guarantee it. Until he fulfills the bail conditions, Tailor will be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility.
The case has stirred significant interest and concern within the community, highlighting the lengths to which criminals will go to achieve their objectives. It also serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and security awareness for residents in the region.
