“Republicans Taking Orders from Elon Musk” – Hillary Clinton on Shutdown Crisis
Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has accused the Republican Party of following the directives of billionaire Elon Musk during the ongoing government funding standoff. Her criticism came as House Democrats blamed “Extreme MAGA” Republicans for pushing the country toward a potential government shutdown.
“If you’re just catching up: the Republican Party, taking orders from the world’s richest man, is on course to shut down the government over the holidays. Stopping paychecks for our troops and nutrition benefits for low-income families just in time for Christmas,” Clinton wrote on X, the platform owned by Musk.
The federal government faces a partial shutdown if a funding deal is not reached by midnight on Saturday. Fox News reports that the standoff intensified after Musk opposed a previous bipartisan spending deal negotiated by House Speaker Mike Johnson, warning he would back primary challenges against any Republican supporting it.
In response, House Republicans introduced a revised plan, including disaster relief funding and a two-year suspension of the debt ceiling, a move aligned with former President Donald Trump’s requests. Despite the changes, the measure failed in the House as some Republicans withheld support and Democrats united in opposition, citing concerns over Musk’s apparent influence.
