Refurbished Ekwueme Square to Host President Tinubu’s Town Hall in Awka

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to hold a high-level town hall meeting with stakeholders in Anambra State this Thursday at the newly refurbished Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka. The meeting is part of the President’s official working visit to the state and is expected to bring together traditional rulers, business leaders, market union executives, and representatives from all 179 communities in Anambra.

Ahead of the visit, the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has been working to finalize beautification and infrastructure upgrades along the Three Arms Zone Boulevard, which leads to the new Anambra Government House. The Government House is also scheduled for commissioning during the President’s visit.

Dr. Ossy Onuko, Managing Director of ACTDA, emphasized during a recent inspection that the capital city is being prepared to ensure a smooth and dignified welcome for the President. “Our aim is to guarantee a clean, smooth, and hitch-free reception for His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Awka is already adorned with images of President Tinubu and Governor Chukwuma Soludo, while decorations continue along key routes such as the Awka–Onitsha Expressway. Onuko also detailed traffic and security plans, noting that alternative parking will be provided at locations including the Anambra Broadcasting Service compound, Kenneth Dike Library, Teachers’ House, and the Anambra Universal Basic Education Board compound.

Speaking on the transformation of the city, Onuko praised Governor Soludo’s leadership, stating that Awka has undergone significant development. “Just two or three years ago, Awka lacked the infrastructure and civic planning to be called a capital city. Today, that narrative has changed significantly,” he said. He added that the governor has redefined Awka with infrastructure and character befitting a true state capital, and that residents are now experiencing the benefits of improved planning and maintenance systems.
