Real Reason Senator Ned Nwoko Left PDP – Governor Oborevwori’s Aide

Senator Ned Nwoko’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by concerns over securing the party’s senatorial ticket for 2027, according to Fred Oghenesivbe, Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau.

Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the Senate, announced his departure from the PDP in a letter dated January 30, 2025, citing deep divisions and factionalism within the party. He claimed these internal struggles hindered his ability to fulfill promises to his constituents.

However, speaking during an interview with TVC News over the weekend, Oghenesivbe dismissed Nwoko’s explanation as “laughable” and insisted the senator’s move was politically motivated. He suggested that Nwoko’s lack of alignment with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other party leaders led to fears about his re-election prospects.

“We all knew it was only a matter of time before he defected. This is about the politics of 2027 and his chances of securing the ticket to run,” Oghenesivbe stated. “Governor Oborevwori is the leader of the PDP in Delta State, and Nwoko has not been working closely with him or other PDP leaders. He is concerned he may not get the ticket because he has misrepresented our party at the National Assembly.”

Oghenesivbe also criticized Nwoko’s handling of the Okpai step-down transformer project, a joint venture involving the federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). He accused the senator of politicizing the issue by pressuring the state government to fund the project without proper negotiations.

“The agreement is legally binding, and if Delta State is to be involved, all stakeholders must meet to discuss it,” he said. “But Ned wanted to use this issue as an excuse to leave the party, claiming the governor did not provide the funds.
