Pro-Wike Ex-Rivers Attorney-General Faces Backlash Over Accusations Against Fubara

The former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Rivers State, Professor Zaccheus Adangor, SAN, is facing criticism following allegations he made against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State University during a recent television appearance.

Adangor, during the televised interview, claimed that Governor Fubara instructed him to initiate legal action against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding a Peace Accord brokered between the Governor and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He also alleged that Fubara was unwilling to reconcile with the FCT Minister.

Furthermore, Adangor asserted that Governor Fubara directed the Rivers State University not to reinstate him after he resigned from his cabinet position, despite being a lecturer and Professor of Law on official Leave of Absence.

In response to these allegations, the management of the Rivers State University, through its Acting Registrar, Mrs. I. B. S. Harry, issued a statement refuting Adangor’s claims. The university clarified that Adangor had not applied for reinstatement after his resignation, contrary to his assertions.

Additionally, Joseph Johnson, Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communications, denounced Adangor’s allegations as “blackmail” and “deliberate falsehood.” Johnson highlighted that Adangor’s resignation letter cited personal reasons and a lack of reassignment, rather than any directive from Governor Fubara.

Sir George C. Nwaeke, Head of Service, Rivers State, addressed an open letter to Adangor, expressing disappointment in his actions and urging him to reflect on his conduct. Nwaeke emphasized the importance of upholding ethical standards, especially given Adangor’s background as a legal professional and academic.
