“We Have No Choice But to Impeach” — Rivers Assembly Members Insist on Removing Governor Fubara, Deputy
The Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to pursue impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.
Addressing a press conference, lawmakers accused Fubara of undermining the legislature and failing to command the trust necessary to manage ongoing crises in the state. They alleged constitutional violations and intimidation of parliamentary members, framing impeachment as a necessary exercise of their legislative authority.
The legislators expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the dispute and called on Speaker Martin Amaewhule to reconvene the House. Four members who had previously advocated for a political solution reversed their stance, now supporting the continuation of the impeachment process.
Later, the Assembly held a plenary session where members unanimously approved an investigation into claims of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy.
