Rivers: Why Impeachment Move Against Fubara Will Fail — Aide
An aide to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Darlington Orji, has said the ongoing impeachment move against the governor will not succeed.
Orji stated that the allegations levelled against Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly lack substance and cannot stand scrutiny. He argued that there is no factual basis for claims of misconduct or financial misappropriation.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Orji said the lawmakers themselves bear the responsibility of proving any allegation of gross misconduct against the governor.
According to him, past impeachment efforts across the country have been overturned by courts due to procedural flaws and lack of credible evidence, a situation he believes will also apply in the current case.
Orji added that many members of the House are uncomfortable with the process, noting that he has spoken with several lawmakers who are privately dissatisfied with the impeachment move.
He expressed confidence that the process will soon be halted, predicting that the issue will be resolved and laid to rest within a short time.
