President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). This announcement was made by the president’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement issued on Saturday.
Mr. Gbeleyi, a distinguished financial expert and award-winning chartered accountant, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. Additionally, he has participated in executive programs at prestigious institutions such as the London Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Lagos Business School.
With over 30 years of post-qualification experience spanning various sectors including manufacturing, FMCG, investment banking, telecommunications, and public administration, Mr. Gbeleyi’s career highlights include serving as the Board Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State from 2013 to 2015.
In his new capacity, President Tinubu expects Mr. Gbeleyi to leverage his extensive expertise to enhance the BPE’s role as a national resource center for capacity building and sustainable reforms. This includes promoting a competitive private sector-driven economy, ensuring social accountability, efficient deployment of public resources, and advancing corporate governance standards in both public and private sectors.
