JUST IN: Emir Sanusi II Leads Sallah Durbar Amidst Security Concerns

The 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, is currently presiding over the traditional Sallah durbar. Earlier today, the Emir led the Eid prayer and delivered a sermon at the Kofar Mata Jumu’at mosque.

The prayer, initially planned for the Eid ground, had to be relocated to the mosque due to heavy rainfall, which flooded the original venue. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, along with other cabinet members, joined the Emir for the prayers.

Security was tight at the event, with the Army, Police, Civil Defence, and other agencies ensuring the safety of the participants. Emir Sanusi followed the traditional route back to his palace, stopping frequently to receive greetings and homage from individuals and groups while riding his horse.

This year’s durbar takes place despite a recent ban announced by the Kano Police Command after a joint security meeting in the state. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf criticized the ban, highlighting that it was imposed without his consultation as the Chief Security Officer of the state.

In contrast, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, observed his Eid prayer at the Nassarawa mini palace. Emir Bayero had earlier announced the cancellation of durbar activities for the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
