President Bola Tinubu Heads to Germany for G20 ‘Compact with Africa’ Conference
President Bola Tinubu is set to depart from Abuja this Saturday for the G20 ‘Compact with Africa’ (CwA) conference in Berlin, Germany. The event, scheduled for November 20, will be hosted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Tinubu will join leaders from CwA member countries, bilateral partners, and international organizations to deliberate on strategies aimed at enhancing investments in crucial sectors such as energy, trade, infrastructure, and new technologies.
Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, stated in a Friday release that the G20 CwA conference coincides with the fourth G20 investment summit, co-hosted by the German government and German business associations.
Ngelale highlighted President Tinubu’s dedication to attracting foreign direct investment to Nigeria, stating, “This visit also affirms President Tinubu’s commitment to diplomatic reciprocity as the invitation to Germany from the German Chancellor is being honored following the visit of the German Chancellor to Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria, from October 29 to October 30, 2023.”
The statement outlined Tinubu’s focus on advancing discussions initiated during the German Chancellor’s visit to Nigeria. It emphasized the need for increased German investment in various sectors of the Nigerian economy, including transportation, mining, and energy. Nigeria currently holds the position of Germany’s second-largest trading partner in Africa.
Accompanying President Tinubu on this diplomatic mission are key ministers, including Yusuf Tuggar (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Wale Edun (Minister of Finance), Doris Uzoka-Anite (Minister of Trade), and Adebayo Adelabu (Minister of Power). The delegation aims to build on previous productive engagements with German business organizations and further strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
