Pregnant Woman Killed as Soldiers Chase Suspected Yahoo Boys
Tension has gripped Abraka community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State following the tragic killing of a pregnant woman by soldiers on Saturday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the soldiers, identified as members of *Operation Delta Sweep*, were in pursuit of suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as “yahoo boys,” when the incident occurred.
The soldiers reportedly attempted to stop the suspects, but they refused and sped off. In the ensuing chase, the soldiers allegedly fired several shots, one of which struck the pregnant woman who was not involved in the incident.
She was said to have died instantly before she could be taken to the hospital.
News of her death triggered immediate protests by indigenes, residents, and students in the community, who expressed outrage at what they described as reckless use of force by the security operatives.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
