POS Attendant Arraigned for Allegedly Gambling Away Employer’s N1 Million

A 24-year-old Point of Sale (POS) attendant, Yusuf Olamilekan, has been arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly stealing N1 million from his employer and using the funds to gamble. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on April 7 at about 6:00 p.m. in the Sango-Ota area.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that Olamilekan unlawfully withdrew the money from the account of his employer, Emeka and Jane Company, without authorization. The funds were reportedly used to play a game of chance, which the defendant ultimately lost.

Olamilekan pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing, which contravenes Section 383 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006. Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. The court specified that the surety must reside within its jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

The case has been adjourned until May 27 for further hearing.
