Portable Arraigned in Ogun Court for Assault, Granted ₦2 Million Bail

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on charges of assault and conspiracy. The controversial artist appeared in court on Thursday following his arrest by the Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Lagos and subsequent transfer to Ogun State Police Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Portable was charged with five counts, including conspiracy, assault, restriction, possession of weapons such as cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause public disturbance. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Nine of his associates—Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26)—had earlier been arraigned on similar charges on February 6. The group is accused of assaulting and obstructing three town planning officials, Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, while they were performing their official duties at Odogwu Bar, a property owned by Portable.

His legal counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, pleaded for bail, assuring the court that Portable had shown remorse and learned from his experience. Magistrate O.L. Oke granted him bail set at N2 million, with one surety in the same amount. The court adjourned the case to March 5 for trial.
