MultiChoice Announces Upcoming Subscription Price Hike

MultiChoice, the leading pay-TV provider, is set to increase the subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages, with the DStv Compact bouquet expected to rise from N15,700 to N19,000. Industry sources confirmed the upcoming price hike, which follows nearly a year after the company’s last review.

The adjustment in pricing is attributed to the continued depreciation of the naira and escalating energy costs, factors that have also impacted the pricing of telecommunications, transportation, and consumer goods across Nigeria.

Subscribers to the Family and Access bouquets, which make up a significant portion of MultiChoice’s customer base, may also see increases. The Family bouquet is expected to go up from N9,300 to N11,000, while the Access bouquet will rise from N5,100 to N6,000. Higher-end packages like Premium and Compact+ will also experience a price review.

GOtv customers will not be spared from the price adjustment. The Value package will increase from N3,600 to N3,900, and the Plus package will move from N4,850 to N5,800.

An industry source noted that since the federal government began implementing economic reforms in 2023, including fuel subsidy removal, naira floatation, and electricity tariff hikes, the cost of goods and services has surged. Inflation stood at 34.80 percent as of December 2024, prompting businesses across various sectors to raise prices, some as many as three times in the past year.

Many companies operating in Nigeria have suffered significant losses due to foreign exchange instability, further driving price increases in an effort to sustain operations.
