Political Shift in Abia as Former Governor Ikpeazu’s Inner Circle Joins APC
Several prominent figures from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State have crossed party lines to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Led by former Chief of Staff to the Governor, Professor Anthony Agbazuere, the defection marks a notable realignment in the state’s political landscape.
Joining Agbazuere in the move to APC are notable personalities including the former Abia Commissioner of Information, Eze Chikamnayo, and former member of the House of Representatives, Uzo Azubuike, along with Chief Sam Nwogu and several others.
Confirmation of the defection came through a statement by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barrister Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, on Tuesday, who highlighted the pledge of support made by the defectors to the APC and its leadership, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement also noted the presence of key individuals from both the APC and Abia State, underscoring the significance of the gathering. Notable attendees included Chief Donatus Nwankpa, former Abia State Commissioner for Finance, and Chief Obinna Oriaku, former House of Representatives member, among others.
The defection of these influential figures is expected to have far-reaching implications for the political dynamics of Abia State, setting the stage for increased competition and strategic maneuvering in the run-up to future elections.
