Abia APC Leaders Unite, Declare Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State have united with a firm pledge to reposition the party and deliver victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. The consensus emerged during a meeting held Thursday night in Abuja at the residence of former governor and current senator, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Bringing together various factions within the Abia APC, the meeting reflected a renewed commitment to party unity and national political relevance. Senator Kalu, speaking to journalists after the four-hour session, described the gathering as a direct response to President Tinubu’s recent call for reconciliation and cohesion within the party at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

Kalu expressed satisfaction with the turnout and noted that the party in Abia was now more united than ever. He emphasized the importance of aligning with the centre to ensure federal support reaches all three senatorial districts in the state, highlighting ongoing federal interventions in Abia North as an example.

The senator said he had given President Tinubu personal assurances of efforts to rebuild APC in Abia into an indivisible political force. Kalu called on all political actors in the state to embrace the peace initiative and promised that no leader would be left behind. He stressed that APC candidates for all levels of election would be credible and well-prepared.

Assuring the people of Abia and the wider South East region of a better deal under Tinubu’s leadership, Kalu said aligning with the federal government was crucial as the president seeks a second term. He revealed that he had been tasked with reaching out to governors across the South East to consolidate support for the APC ahead of the next election cycle.

Echoing Kalu’s remarks, APC National Welfare Secretary, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, said the meeting aimed to redirect and consolidate the party’s recent gains. He noted that Abia APC had recorded a significant influx of former members of the PDP and other parties in the last two years, which he described as a sign of the party’s growing acceptability in the state.

Nwankpa called on key party figures, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, former ministerial and gubernatorial candidates, and other top leaders to set aside differences and unite for the party’s future. He assured them of the unwavering support and loyalty of the party base.

He firmly dismissed any notion of supporting the current governor’s re-election, affirming that Abia would have an APC governor come 2027. He warned that any party leader acting contrary to this goal would face disciplinary measures, while also extending an olive branch to those willing to return to the fold.

Nwankpa reaffirmed the party’s strong grassroots support and expressed confidence that APC would not only secure the required 25 percent in Abia but would win the state outright in 2027. He pledged Abia APC’s full endorsement of President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, citing the need to complete his economic and social reforms.

He also praised the party’s national leadership, describing the National Chairman as a man of victory who has expanded APC’s reach since taking office. Commendations were extended to Governors Hope Uzodinma and Francis Nwifuru for their roles in strengthening the APC in the South East, as well as to Deputy Speaker Kalu for his leadership and development efforts.

Among those present at the meeting were Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and several prominent party leaders including Obinna Oriaku, Ndukwe Adindu, Sam Ikiri, Mike Nwabara, Anyim Nyerere, and others.
