Police, Vigilantes Thwart Robbery on Kano-Zaria Highway; Villagers Kill Suspected Bandit

A joint effort by a police patrol team from Makarfi division and local vigilantes successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt on the Kano-Zaria Highway early Tuesday morning.

The robbers and suspected cattle rustlers had set up a roadblock using logs of wood and stones, but their plans were disrupted by the swift intervention of the security team.

In a statement released by police spokesperson Mansir Hassan, it was confirmed that the road was quickly cleared, allowing motorists to proceed safely. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.

During the operation, a shootout occurred, prompting the criminals to abandon their Golf Volkswagen car with registration number APP 166 DG as they fled the scene.

In a separate incident at Rugar Sojidi, a Fulani settlement near Issan Makaranta in Kagarko LGA, villagers killed a suspected bandit who was part of a gang that had attacked the village to abduct residents.

According to police reports, the bandits had already kidnapped three individuals before the villagers intervened. The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday. When police in Jere arrived at the scene, they found that local residents had neutralized one of the bandits. An AK-47 rifle and six rounds of ammunition were recovered, and all three kidnap victims were safely rescued.

State Commissioner of Police Audu Dabigi commended the bravery of both the officers and the villagers, assuring the public of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
