IPOB: Police in Enugu Declare Retired Officer, Seven Others Wanted (Full List)

The Enugu State Police Command has issued a wanted declaration for eight individuals, including a retired police officer, in connection with alleged murder and terrorism. This announcement follows the killing of two police officers and three vigilante members in early May.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Daniel Ndukwe, the state police spokesperson, released a statement on Monday night identifying the suspects. Among them is 47-year-old Uche Asogwa, a retired officer from Ovoko in Igbo-Eze South Council Area, now residing in Igga, Uzo-Uwani Council Area.

The other suspects named are:

Gabriel Emebe, 41

Ogechukwu Ogbonna, 26

Chimezie Ugwu, 21

Chizoba Ogbuabor, 36

Evarestus Eze, 43

Jude Nebeolisa, 27

Chitor Okechukwu, 28

All suspects are residents of the Igga community. The police have released their photographs and descriptions, urging the public to assist in their capture.

“These individuals are wanted in connection with conspiracy to murder, terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, arson, and unlawful possession of firearms,” stated Mr. Ndukwe. He encouraged anyone with information to contact the police, offering a monetary reward for credible leads.

The police statement did not detail the suspects’ alleged crimes, but sources indicate the declaration is linked to the recent killings in the Igga community. Following the incident, the traditional ruler of Igga, Herbert Ukuta, and seven other leaders were arrested and charged with conspiracy, membership in the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the murder of the security personnel. They are currently remanded at the Enugu Maximum Custodial Centre.

IPOB, a group advocating for an independent Biafra, has been implicated in various attacks in the region but consistently denies involvement.
