Police Patrol Ambushed, Two Officers Killed as Insecurity Worsens

The team, composed of personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Police Mobile Force (PMF), and State Intelligence Department (SID), had been conducting a visibility patrol to reassure residents and enhance local security when the attack occurred.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, describing it as a tragic loss for the force. “Concerted efforts are underway to apprehend the attackers,” Hundeyin said, emphasizing that the police remain committed to protecting citizens despite the rising security challenges.

Last week, over 300 students were kidnapped from a Catholic school in Niger State, while 24 Muslim students were abducted from a school in Kebbi State. In Kwara State, armed assailants targeted a church, abducting multiple worshippers. None of the victims from these incidents have been released as of now.

In Borno State, a brigadier general and other security officials were killed during a terrorist ambush, and in Abuja, a police officer lost his life on Friday while foiling an attack by approximately 30 gunmen in the Bwari Area Council.

The worsening security situation has prompted significant concern at the national level. President Bola Tinubu canceled his scheduled attendance at the G20 Summit in South Africa, delegating representation to Vice President Kashim Shettima instead.
