JUST IN: Suspected Terrorists Abduct 13 Teenage Girls in Borno, One Escapes
Thirteen teenage girls were seized by suspected insurgents in the Askira-Uba area of Borno State while working on farmlands in the Mussa district. Local authorities confirmed that the girls, aged between 15 and 20, were taken on Saturday as they harvested crops.
The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, said the victims were among families earlier relocated from Huyim to Mussa due to security restrictions that made their original community inaccessible. He explained that the girls were participating in joint community farming when the attackers arrived.
One of the abducted teenagers managed to flee and returned home on Sunday morning. The remaining 12 are still missing, and the whereabouts of the abductors remain unclear.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, urged security agencies to intensify search and rescue efforts. He called on residents to stay alert and share any credible information that could support the operation to recover the missing girls.
