Police Launch Manhunt for Gunmen Who Set Vigilante Operative Ablaze in Anambra State

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has pledged relentless efforts to apprehend the gunmen responsible for a deadly attack on the office of the Anambra State Vigilante Group. The assailants struck the security facility in Amichi, situated in the Nnewi South Local Government Area, resulting in the tragic death of a yet-to-be-identified vigilante operative who was set ablaze during the assault.

According to reports, the gunmen, whose identities remain unknown, launched the brazen attack on Thursday, leaving devastation in their wake. Eyewitnesses recounted how the victim, suspected to be a member of the vigilante group, was fatally shot while seeking refuge from the hail of bullets.

The violence perpetrated by the assailants extended to the destruction of property, as a section of the security facility and a Sienna vehicle belonging to the vigilante operatives were set ablaze, as depicted in a video recording captured shortly after the incident.

In response to the heinous act, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, conveyed the unwavering determination of law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. Commissioner Adeoye expressed condolences to the affected community and praised the dedication of the Anambra State Vigilante Group in safeguarding residents.

Furthermore, Adeoye issued directives for swift responses to distress calls from vigilante groups, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the police and local security outfits in ensuring public safety. Efforts are already underway to identify and dismantle the criminal elements responsible for the attack, with police tactical teams and special forces mobilized for the task.
