Anambra Police Arrest Man Who Funded Deadly Urum Ambush
The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a 52-year-old man, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe, following a referral by operatives of the 302 Artillery Regiment, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Onitsha. The arrest, made on 5th February 2026, relates to an ongoing investigation into conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous injury, and murder in Urum.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said Onyenwe allegedly collaborated with one Felix Godwin and other unidentified individuals to fund and coordinate an armed ambush on a public road in Urum.
According to Ikenga, Onyenwe admitted during questioning that Godwin transferred N500,000 via a bank account to hire four gunmen from Ayamelum Local Government Area, with one local resident, Emeka, reportedly leading the attack. Godwin also provided N350,000 for the purchase of cartridges used in the operation. The ambush left six people with serious gunshot injuries.
Onyenwe remains in police custody for further interrogation as authorities continue efforts to locate and arrest the remaining suspects.
