Varsity Student Declared Missing On Her Way To Lecture Room In Kogi

Janet Kyeme, a 200-level student at the Federal University, Lokoja, has been reported missing while en route to attend lectures at the university. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday as she made her way to the main campus located in Felele, Lokoja.

It remains unclear whether the disappearance is linked to a kidnapping. According to sources gathered by City & Crime, Janet, a student of the Department of Library and Information Science (LIS), was last seen on Friday morning when she boarded a motorcycle from her family residence in the Zango – Army Barracks area of Lokoja.

Concern heightened when Janet failed to return home from school on that fateful day, prompting her foster father, a pastor in a local Pentecostal church, to raise the alarm. Her family’s attempts to contact her proved futile as her phone was switched off.

Pastor Joseph, a close friend of the family, expressed the family’s anxiety, stating, “Apprehension has gripped the family over her fate, as no contact has been made to the family from any quarters since her sudden disappearance.”

Authorities at the university assured that efforts were underway to locate the missing student. A director at the institution, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “The school authorities have taken appropriate action in conjunction with security agents and other relevant bodies. We hope our efforts will yield a desirable result. Since it’s already a security matter, we cannot say much about the situation now.”

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, described the case as a missing person investigation, noting that no contact had been made with the family by the supposed abductors. The investigation is ongoing.
