Female Suspect Among Five Arrested in Anambra Robbery Crackdown

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested five individuals suspected to be part of a robbery syndicate operating in Ihiala, following an early morning operation on March 24, 2026.

The suspects—identified as Sunday Chukwudebele (22), Adaobi Udeze (26), Chimezie Ifebi (35), Kelvin Chukwuejike (28), and Uzi Chukwuejike Williams Umeh (26)—were apprehended by officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu.

Items recovered during the operation include a locally made Beretta-style pistol, three Qlink motorcycles (150 Tiger model) believed to be stolen, and a red face mask.

According to police, preliminary findings indicate that one of the suspects, a woman, played a central role in the group’s activities by posing as a passenger to lure commercial motorcyclists—commonly known as okada riders—to isolated areas. Victims were then reportedly attacked by other members of the group and stripped of their motorcycles and personal belongings.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the officers involved for what he described as a prompt and coordinated response. He reaffirmed the command’s focus on public safety and urged residents, particularly commercial riders, to stay alert and report suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
