Police Launch Investigation into Suspected Murder of Pregnant Woman Found Hanging in Anambra
Authorities in Anambra State have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a pregnant woman whose body was discovered hanging from a cashew tree in Ideani, Idemili North Local Government Area. The woman was found on Monday along the Uke/Ideani road, and while initial observations suggested suicide, police officials now believe foul play may be involved.
Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has cast doubt on the theory of suicide, suggesting instead that the scene may have been staged to conceal a murder. In a statement released by the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner described the case as a tragic instance of “man’s inhumanity to man” and ordered a full investigation to uncover those responsible.
The police are appealing to members of the public, particularly residents and leaders in the Ideani community, to provide any information that may assist in identifying the perpetrators. The body of the woman, who remains unidentified, has been recovered by officers from the Ogidi Police Division and deposited in a mortuary as investigations continue.
