Police Arrest Suspected NSCDC Officer, Two Others Over Alleged Robbery in Anambra
Police in Anambra State have arrested a suspected officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps alongside two others over alleged involvement in robbery activities in Ogidi, within Idemili North Local Government Area.
The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Awka on Sunday.
He stated that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, carried out the operation on March 21 at about 1:46 p.m. following intelligence reports that led them to a suspected criminal hideout in Ogidi, where the suspects were taken into custody.
The arrested individuals were identified as Francis Anene (46), Emmanuel Obi (29), and Okoye Chinonso (35), along with an individual alleged to be a serving member of a security agency.
Items recovered from the scene included two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, four rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and a suspected counterfeit security identity card.
Preliminary findings suggest the suspects were part of a group linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and other criminal activities reported in Ogidi and surrounding areas. Investigators are also examining possible connections to the killing of the late President-General of Ogidi.
In a separate development, police operatives attached to the Ozubulu Police Division recovered a suspected stolen white petrol tanker abandoned along the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway in the early hours of March 17.
According to Ikenga, the vehicle was discovered without a registration number and with the key still in the ignition. It was reportedly abandoned by an unidentified individual.
He added that efforts are ongoing to identify the owner of the tanker and determine the circumstances surrounding its abandonment, while investigations into both incidents continue.
