Police Arrest Suspected Killer of CSP, Disrupt Child Trafficking Syndicate
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect, Ogaga Dickson, who is believed to be a member of an armed robbery gang responsible for the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Hassan Jega. Jega, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division in Delta State, was killed on October 14, 2024, during a gunfight between police officers led by the DPO and the gang, following a foiled robbery operation.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, police operatives from the Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) launched an operation targeting the gang’s hideout. This operation resulted in a fierce exchange of gunfire, which neutralized four members of the syndicate. The subsequent arrest of Dickson led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, an English pistol, a locally made pistol, various ammunition, and six luxury vehicles.
In a separate operation, the police also dismantled a child trafficking syndicate based in Plateau State. On December 2, 2024, operatives arrested the suspected leader, Pastor Dayo Bernard of the End Time Army Ministry in Bukuru, Plateau State. The operation resulted in the rescue of five children, aged between 2 and 4, who were abducted from different homes in Jos. Other members of the syndicate, including Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel, and Peter Ukwuani, were also apprehended.
The arrests were part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to combat organized crime and enhance public safety. Assistant Commissioner Adejobi emphasized that the police have adopted intelligence-driven strategies to disrupt criminal networks, leading to a significant decline in violent crimes nationwide.
