Police Arrest 18-Year-Old Suspect, Recover AK-47 While Foiling Planned Attack on Nibo Community in Anambra
An 18-year-old suspect, Miracle Mwakalor, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police in connection with plans to attack Nibo, a community in Awka South Local Government Area. Mwakalor, from Umubele in Awka South, was apprehended on Friday by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu-Ukwu after credible information led to a raid on a criminal gang’s hideout. The gang was reportedly discussing plans to carry out an attack on Nibo, a community still recovering from a deadly assault in October, in which at least ten young men were killed.
During the arrest, police recovered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine from the gang’s hideout. While Mwakalor was captured, other members of the gang managed to flee. Upon questioning, the suspect confessed to the group’s intentions and led officers to an apartment in Ubuofu Awka, where the rifle was hidden in the roof. The police have intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members. Further updates on the investigation are expected.
