“Please let there be no litigation” — Obi urges unity as he, Kwankwaso join NDC
Peter Obi has called on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid internal disputes and litigation, warning that such actions could undermine efforts to build a strong political platform ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi made the appeal on Sunday in Abuja, where he and Rabiu Kwankwaso were formally received into the party at its national secretariat.
The former Anambra State governor recently exited the African Democratic Congress, while Kwankwaso had earlier signalled ongoing consultations with the NDC.
Addressing supporters after receiving his membership card, Obi said party cohesion must take precedence over legal battles.
“Please let there be no litigation. Party members should not resort to court actions. We want to build a party, not spend our time in legal disputes,” he said.
“We are pleading with the judiciary to conclude cases involving the party so we can focus on building. We want to start building,” Obi added.
He said the party’s objective is to create a system where merit determines opportunity.
“We want to build a country where a child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he said.
NDC National Chairman Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe presented membership cards to both Obi and Kwankwaso during the event.
Speaking after the meeting, Kwankwaso said their decision followed consultations with party stakeholders.
“We came to discuss with the leadership about the party and its ideology. We found that our beliefs align,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to join the party ahead of its membership registration deadline.
