Planned Protests Over Economic Conditions a Family Matter, Says Minister Mohammed Idris

Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, has urged patience from those organizing nationwide protests in response to the country’s harsh economic conditions.

Following reports of planned demonstrations by some youths, Idris addressed the situation on Wednesday after a meeting with George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

“Those agitating and asking for protests are Nigerians,” Idris said. “They are our brothers and sisters. Those in positions of authority—the ministers, the president, and everyone else—are all Nigerians too. This is a family matter.”

Idris emphasized that the government is actively addressing the economic issues, with President Bola Tinubu and other officials working tirelessly. “No one is going to sleep,” he assured. “This is a Nigerian family issue, and all of us are looking at this issue very well. We hope that peace will prevail at the end of the day.”

He noted that numerous ministers are engaged in addressing national interests and are committed to the country’s progress. “We hope and believe that Nigeria is going to be great again,” he added.

Idris concluded by stating that protests are unnecessary and called for calm and patience. “If you have anything that you want to put out there, you are free to put it out there, but the government insists that we are all Nigerians,” he said. “We have to be calm, be patient, and give peace a chance. Mr. President is working round the clock, ministers are working, everyone is working. All hands are on deck.”
