Photos: Ukachukwu Secures Major Boost as Over 10,000 PDP Members from Anambra North Defect to APC
The governorship bid of Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, popularly known as Ikukuoma Ndigbo, received a significant boost on Friday as more than 10,000 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra North Senatorial District formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The high-profile defection took place at the Radisson Onyx Hotel in Awka, marking a dramatic shift in the political landscape ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
The defectors included five principal officers—Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary, Women Leader, and Youth Leader—from all 99 wards across the seven local government areas of Anambra North. Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Joseph Madubueze, PDP leader in Anambra North, declared their resolve to support the APC, stating that Ukachukwu’s track record and vision for the state convinced them to switch allegiance. He described Ukachukwu as “a man of sound political pedigree, an entrepreneur par excellence, and a visionary leader whose ideas will transform Anambra for the better.” Madubueze assured that the group would work tirelessly to secure victory for the Ukachukwu-Ekwunife ticket.
In his remarks, Ukachukwu welcomed the defectors, stressing that their decision represented more than just support for his candidacy but a genuine partnership to “redeem Anambra from bad governance.” He emphasized that the movement was not about political party labels but about ensuring good governance and delivering tangible benefits to the people.
Ukachukwu further promised inclusive leadership, assuring the defectors that one of their members would be appointed a commissioner if APC wins the election. He also directed that five members from each of the seven council areas—Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Anambra East, Anambra West, Oyi, and Ayamelum—be nominated to serve in the polling unit campaign councils.
